Report La Zampogna

la zampogna 3

18-19-20 January 2013
Maranola, Campodimele, Itri, Formia (Italy)
For the last twenty years "La Zampogna" has been one of the most important Italian festival of folk music.
The market of folk musical instruments, such as bagpipes, flutes, reeds, tambourines, etc, has been particularly succesful with young and old luthiers coming from various Italian regions.
In the twentieth edition of the festival they had a number of widely acclaimed guests. One was certainly Nadishana, coming from Siberia and certainly the most well known maker of instruments for European World Music.   Among the young musicians who joined the festival they want to mention "Zampognorchestra", the original ensemble of late medieval bombards Lapsus Calami, and the great Enzo Avitabile, who was awarded "La Zampogna" prize. Concerts, seminars and workshops were run by many musicians who came to the festival from every part of Italy.

Babel Med 2013 : website is now available!

Babel Med Music 2013 : a Capital year!

The next Babel Med Music will take place from the 21st to the 23th of March 2013, at the ‘Dock des Suds’ venue in Marseilles. In 2013 Marseilles becomes European Capital of Culture, marking 2013 as an exceptional year and  confirming Babel Med Music as The place to be for artists and professionals of the International World Music scene.
Every year its selection committee receives over 1000 applications from France as well as a diversity of countries such as Tadjikistan, New Zealand, Mali, Israel, Bosnia, South Africa and countries of the Maghreb. In 2013, Babel Med Music is going to open a fourth stage which will be dedicated to contemporary music, urban music and to new sounds from around the Mediterranean. This is made possible by the Watt programme - « What About Today and Tomorrow » - a programme which was created by Marseille Provence 2013 and which aims to connect artists from the Marseilles Provence area with North American artists and artists from the Arab Music scene.
For three days, artists and professionals from around the world will gather to develop their activities, detect new trends and exchange ideas and views within the scope of meetings, conferences and debates.
The artists selected to take part in this festival will perform in front of international festival directors and programming managers, artistic agents and record labels. It will be open to the public who will be able to satisfy their curiosity and taste for new musical talents (15,000 audience members in 2012).
